 ABOUT THE CLASS

Actor's will work on monologues and be introduced to the techniques of the media. Writers of plays; screenwriting, and musicals will participate with the actors in the reading of their works as well as group discussions. As the class is constructed in the usage of Zoom, it is necessary to schedule that all writers and actors have their work in advance of the day of the class submitted. to the instructors; myself, and Richard Chang who is co-instructor.

Ernest Abuba (Instructor/Director)

is an award winning actor, playwright, director on stage, film and TV, and last seen in The Oldest Boy at Lincoln Center Theatre. Plays, he has written include Kwatz! The Tibetan Project, Eat A Bowl of Tea, An American Story, The Dowager, Dojoji: The Man Inside The Bell, Cambodia Agonistes, Papa-Boy, Nightstalker, Lier Rex, and co-created Bauldelaire: La Mort with Shigeko Suga. He is the author/co-director of six Educational screenplays aired/produced by WING Productions CBS/PBS and is the voice of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama on the audio-book, The Art of Happiness, Vol. 1. Recipient of an Obie, a Rockefeller Playwright Residency, five New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Grants for Playwriting and Directing, and a Creative Artists Public Service (CAPS) Grant.

Richard Chang (Co-Instructor)

is an actor and playwright who blends genres to tell neglected stories, reflecting his background in journalism; Asian and Western theater, dance and opera; puppetry and improv comedy. His play Citizen Wong has received grants from the National Endowment of the Arts, Queens Council on the Arts and the Puffin Foundation. Solo comedies include Goy Vey! Adventures of a Dim Sun in Search of his Wanton Father, and Ah Chew! Drama of a Diva Mama. Screen roles include New York, I Love You, Windhorse, Saving Face, Never Forever, Chasing America, Return to Paradise; Cantonese Style, No Menus Please, NBC-TV series Kidnapped and Doom Chat.
