Ready to do some laughing? We invite you to an exclusive sneak preview of our upcoming New York premiere, the Canadian hit comedy Mom, Dad, I’m Living with a White Girl! Come meet some of the artists behind next season’s hilarious new show and enjoy some refreshments with the artists of Pan Asian Rep, The Premier Asian American Theatre Company. Synopsis: Mark must confront his traditional Chinese parents about his Caucasian live-in girlfriend. Knowing that his parents will disapprove, his fears manifest themselves as a B-movie satire about the Yellow Claw, a warlord bent on world domination. In this wild comedy about race, relationships, and shuriken throwing stars, Mark’s worlds of reality and fantasy face off in an all out battle for Mark’s soul.
Cast of Characters (in order of Appearance):
Henry Yuk as Kim Gee, a father with deep roots in tradition and no understanding of compromise.
AKA The Henchman, a sniveling sycophant of the dreaded “Yellow Claw”.
WAI CHING HO as Li
Fen Gee, an overprotective Chinese mother who invests all her joy and
sorrow into her son. AKA The Yellow Claw, an evil mastermind plotting
to take over the world.
Pun Bandhu as Mark
Gee, a young Asian man caught between Canada and China. AKA Agent
Banana, an earnest and naïve mole working for a better society.
Mary Kickel as Sally Davis, Mark’s Caucasian girlfriend pushing him to confront his traditional parents. AKA Snow Princess, a radical patriot infiltrating the Yellow Claw’s wicked web.
About the Playwright
Canadian playwright MARTY CHAN has been working in theatre for over ten years. His hit play, Mom, Dad, I’m Living with a White Girl, has been produced in eight Canadian cities. For television, he wrote The Orange Seed Myth, which won the Gold Medal for Best Pilot at the Charleston World Television Festival. Between 1994 and 2000, he wrote and performed a weekly humor commentary series, The Dim Sum Diaries for CBC Radio. His first children’s chapter book, The Mystery of the Frozen Brains, will be launched in the spring of 2004. Ironically, despite all his success, Marty’s mom still wants him to become an accountant.

WORKSHOP
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
The Workshop is open
to all Actors, Writers, and solo performers of any and all ethnic backgrounds
to develop new solo works with a focus on process. It is a 10-week workshop
culminating with a public presentation.
The Process:
Step 1: The Synopsis. Artists will submit a one-page synopsis of concept at
the first workshop meeting.
Step 2: The Outline. Various elements such as alternative narrative
structures, multimedia will be discussed to see how they could benefit the
artist's piece.
Step 3: Table Readings. The artists will begin writing their scripts and
bringing them into the workshop to receive input.
Step 4: Staging. Through improv and direction by the instructor, the artist
will begin giving their words a physical life.
Step 5: Performance. The presentation serves as a step for the performer to
guage how their piece works for an audience.
All work will be considered towards Pan Asian Rep's TWO NIGHTS ONLY presented
at THE WEST END THEATRE.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ernest Abuba is a Playwright, Director and Obie Award Actor for his role in
YELLOW FEVER. He has had major roles in Broadway's PACIFIC OVERTURES, LOOSE
ENDS, Tv's KUNG FU, ADDERLY, Hollywood's TWELVE MONKEYS, CALL ME, many
regional and Pan Asian Rep productions. His plays include: KWATZ! THE TIBETAN
PROJECT, CAMBODIA AGONISTES, PAPA-BOY, NIGHT STALKER, and LEIR REX. He is
currently a Guest Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College.

About the Instructor / Director:
Ernest Abubais an Obie Award Recipient, Actor, Director and Playwright. He is most notable for his roles in YELLOW FEVER and SHOGUN MACBETH and his semi-opera CAMBODIA AGONISTES which toured internationally at the Cairo Experimental Theatre Festival and the Johannesburg Market Theatre. His other plays PAPA-BOY, EAT A BOWL OF TEA, AN AMERICAN STORY, THE DOWAGER, NIGHT STALKER, and LEIR REX have been produced by Shout Productions at La MaMa ETC., Pan Asian Rep., and the Asian American Theatre Company of San Francisco. Mr. Abuba narrates as the voice of the Dalai Lama on the audio-book THE ART OF HAPPINESS. He performed his co-original piece SPLEEN inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal at H.T. Chen & Dancers’ Co. He is currently a Guest Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College. Mr Abuba’s play, KWATZ! THE TIBETAN PROJECT will be produced by Pan Asian Rep this March.
